BOOM ... WOOF!

Ciao miei amici!

I have been barking my noggin off for the past ora (hour) or so because there has been TUONO (THUNDER)! I am not quite sure what this thunder business is, but every time I hear a loud BOOM, I feel the urge to talk back.

What is that noise?!?!

La mia ragazza doesn't exactly try to pet or snuggle me when the thunder thunders because she read in some doggie libri (books) that making a big fuss over thunder will only reinforce my reaction to it, so mostly, she just tries to keep doing whatever it is that she's doing when the BOOM hits. I'm very curiosa (curious), everydoggie -- how do you handle thunder in your homes? If you all get cuddles and extra attention, I'm going to stage a big protest to la mia ragazza!

Now, while this thunderyness is not so great, I am MOLTO, MOLTO (VERY, VERY) happy to report that la mia ragazza's papa is home again and feeling much better after getting several rounds of Auntie Biotics these past few days. We will be spending some time with him this fine settimana (weekend), just to give him a hand until he's 100 percent back to normal.

On the go again!

Well, wait -- la mia ragazza is spending some time with him this weekend, but I, Lucia, am going to be spending some time with my beloved Auntie Beth. Why am I going there, you ask? Because Grandpa needs to rest a lot and -- giggle!! -- sometimes I bark too much at things I see in the yard. Birdies, squirrels, bunnies -- ah, I feel the need to converse with them all! The goooooood news is, Auntie Beth's vicini (neighbors) have a 5-month-old Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier that I may get to play with! Yayyy! We will try to get some fotografie (pictures) and will post them so you can see this dear pupster. I also understand from la mia ragazza that I have a cugino (cousin) in that area -- an Airedale Terrier who's from the same breeder that I'm from. Wouldn't it be fantastico (fantastic) if I ran into this doggie while taking a walkie with Auntie Beth?? Santa vacca (holy cow), I would be overjoyed!

La mia ragazza told me that we will try to visit everybloggie before we go because we have lots of catching up to do, but in the meantime, she wants to say [WAIT ... WHAT?? OK, OK, OK] ...Actually, she says she'll tell you in the PeeEss, so I'll sign off with ....

Tanti baci!
Lucia

PeeEss: Thank you so very much to all of Lucia's bloggie pals and their mamas and papas. Your prayers, good wishes and crossed paws (not to mention that wonderful Aire Zen!) for my father and my beautiful mom have meant the world to me. You all are so caring and so kind -- what an amazing community!

Hi Lucia
We dont like thunder at all but our mum, like yours, doesnt make a fuss. She puts some nice music on, tell us everything is OK, and just continues what she is doing.
If there is lightening she does close the curtains because we dont like that either.
It is a very loud scary noise and of course, we dogs have even more sensitive hearing than humans!
Enjoy your visit to Auntie Beth's house.
We are glad you have a new friend to play with. Our mum always though a wheaten terrier would be a lovely dog - of course we are very lovely ourselves!

Hi Lucia

I'm okay with thunder, its Tinkerbell (the darling cat!!) that takes fright! She usually tries to hide upstairs under the duvet in Big Sis's room!

Have a lovely time in your Auntie Beth's house and we hope you get to have lots of fun.

We're glad to hear that everyone is much better now.

Take care
Clive

hi bella Luciahhhh!! nope nope...we are not bothered by thunder...when we all got our cgc's -- they would drop chairs for the "loud noise", they need to make as part of the testing... and we would sort of look at them like...is that it??? bring on the big stuff! of course my humomm brought us to her sculpture studio from the time we were very young and she's always beating on steel or popping a torch or beating on stones...or playing her "musack" to loud -- for a quiet person, she can make lots of noise sometimes <----lots noisier then thunder! so come on over and we'll do some noise therapy Lucia...sort of like flooding you won't be bothered by the thunder any more....
we are glad to hear you grampa is home and doing better...tell him theBUSTER sez "get well" <----your dolce BUSTERIGO!! and the gurlz

pee ess----> from our humomm....to your ragazza: pssst don't tell anyone, but when sephie was a little pupster she would tremble and get car sick if we went over RR tracks...so each time i would get to the tracks i would sing BOOOOM BEDEEEEE BOOM!!!quite loudly, right as we hit the tracks <---i guess she just needed a warning! it stopped the trembling etc....also, when a storm was coming, i sat inside on the stairs with the twins and narrate the big BOOMs as they came-- i'm sure they thought this was pretty cool with the trees blowing every which way <---the blues are very visual...
so i figured if they had a word for it (anything loud is a "BOOMbeedeeBOOM!),they would be forewarned... it actually works...none of them is bothered by loud noises (this was after having a wheaten who was petrified of thunder!) i wanted to make sure the three musketeers weren't...

Lucia.Yeah!! Mama's Papa is better. Molto molto bene. I'm smiling for them.Doing a little wiry jig too. Can you see? Thank you too for your lovely message hugs for your Mama, now we are happy for her :)

But oh the thunder boomers frighten you? Poor Lucia. I'm not too frightened of thunder but kitty bro hides. Mom had a kitty once who would hide up the chimney in thuderstorms. Stupido catto!! I heard a T Touch calming band or T Touch body wrap are said to be very good for helping with thunder and fireworks.

Have a splendido time at Auntie Beths. And Moma a lovely time with her Papa. Hope you get to play with the sweetie wheatie!!

I hate thunder too, mom usually tells me that it is okay but normally does not fuss over me. I am still scared regardless, usually I hide in the bathroom.

Oh no - poor Lucia - nobody likes thunder. I hide under a table - D brings me lots of pillows and treats and I stay there for the whole time - D tries not to show me too much attention - but she can't help it - sometimes she joins me under the table and reads a book. Paddy joined us recently - and we are not sure what he does yet...

Glad to hear your Nonno is doing better - your Auntie sounds like a nice lady so I hope you have a good time and get lots of biscuits.

Enjoy your stay and we hope all is well with your Mamma and Nonno

Lots of licks

Hi Lucia, You'll get used to the thunder - we don't mind it at all but Java is a little frightened of lightening. It gets better with age.

Mom and Lilly just got back from their trip and they saw a restaurant named Ragazza - it made them laugh and think of you.

Have fun with your auntie. We're glad to hear your ragazza'ss papa is starting to feel better.

XOXO

Mitch isn't bothered by much! He's a boy!

We're glad to read that your grampa is doing better and the Auntie Biotix seem to have helped. (The Auntie Biotix that Fergi is taking seem to be making her poop loose. But that's beside the point and I'm sorry to have digressed!)

Thunder? At first it made me go ballistic! I bolted like a maniac the first few nights that I heard it. Mom had to restrain me with legs and arms, pressing me to the bed. (It was awful.) Now... I'm much better. I still hate it, but I have to admit, it seems to help that Mom has lessened her hold and encouraged me to be brave. It helps when it happens during the daytime. Everything is worse at night.

A little anxious, just thinking about it,

My strategy for dealing with a thunderstorm is to follow Gail everywhere round the house, barking loudly all the while. I think it works at scaring away the storms because they happen very rarely (maybe about once a year) here in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Hope you enjoyed a good weekend with your terrier pals.
Cheers! H.

Lucia, we are very happy your grandpa is doing better, but we will continue to cross our paws until he's 100%!

Now...about those thunderstorms...Penny is terrified of thunder and now, she's taught Patches to bark at them. Our mom read, on some of the Husky's blogs, that they put shirts on them during storms. We tried it and it really does work. We don't know WHY or HOW, but it really calms Penny down! We use one of Dad's t-shirts!

Aire-hugs,

I don't mind lightening but I HATE thunder. I go running around the house barking like crazy. My girl says, "Keeley, it's OK. It's only thunder. It's OK!" This might calm me for a few seconds but then when some more thunder happens, then I go even crazier. There's nothing my girl can do except to put a pillow over her head and wait for my barking to end. Sometimes though, my grandma can't take it any more and she comes downstairs to get me. She takes me up to her apartment and lets me sleep in her bed with her while she hugs me close. So I think maybe hugging is okay.
Woof,
Keeley

Hi Lucia,

Our latest addition to the pack don't like thunderstorms too (which unfortunately we get very often). The Chief's still figuring out how to deal with his fear of thunder - but so far she's been advice to behave normally or even have a pawty (with the rest of us) to distract him from the storm.

Glad to hear that your papa is back home from his dose of Auntie Biotics. We hope he rests and recovers well.

Have fun at Auntie Beth and be good now!
